प्राचीन Vastu Shastra के अनुसार, सृष्टि के आरंभ में Brahma जी ने एक विशालकाय divine पुरुष को बनाया, जो आकाश-पृथ्वी के बीच फैला हुआ था। 45 devtas ने मिलकर उसे पकड़कर पृथ्वी पर लिटा दिया — सिर NE की ओर, पैर SW की ओर। यह "Vastu Purush" बन गया, और जिन 45 devtas ने उसे पकड़ा, वे उसके body पर अलग-अलग positions पर बैठे रहे। उसी moment से हर दिशा और उसका ruling devta fixed हो गया।
