The Vishwakarma Prakash (विश्वकर्मप्रकाश) is one of the most important — and most under-read — classical Vastu Shastra texts. Composed in Sanskrit and structured in 14 chapters (अध्याय), it is the canonical guide attributed to Maharshi Vishwakarma, the divine architect of the gods. While modern Vastu writers quote fragments of this text, very few have walked the reader through the entire book in plain language.
This series does exactly that. Across 14 dedicated posts, I'm taking the Chaukhamba Surbharati edition (2017, edited by Maharshi Abhay Katyayan) chapter by chapter — translating, explaining, and showing where each rule still applies to modern homes, shops, factories, and temples.
📜 What is Vishwakarma Prakash?
The lineage is fascinating. The Sanskrit verses in Chapter 1 trace the transmission like this:
शिव → पराशर → बृहद्रथ → विश्वकर्मा → वासुदेव → अनिरुद्ध
"Shiva taught Parashar, who taught Brihadrath, who taught Vishwakarma, who in turn taught Vasudeva and Aniruddha."
This is not folk Vastu. It is the formal architectural science (वास्तुविद्या / स्थापत्यवेद) that built ancient cities — Dwarka, Ayodhya, Hastinapur, Indraprastha. Mayasura built the Pandavas' palace using these rules. Drona's Rangamandap, Yudhishthir's Rajasuya sabha, Ravana's palace at Lanka — all reportedly drew on this same tradition.

💡 Why this series matters in 2026
Most Vastu content online is recycled — same N-E-tips, same Kuber corner advice, same colour charts. Almost nobody goes to the source text. Reading Vishwakarma Prakash gives you three superpowers:
- Original authority. You stop quoting bloggers and start quoting Sanskrit shlokas. Every rule you give a client has a verse behind it.
- Diagnostic depth. Modern Vastu skips Shalya Nirnay (Chapter 12) entirely. But if there are bones, ash, or coal buried under your foundation, *no surface remedy will work*. The book teaches you to test the land before you build.
- Cultural seriousness. When you talk about the 12 auspicious land-shapes for temples or the 81-pad Vastu Mandal, you are tapping into 2,000+ years of refined practice. Clients feel the difference immediately.
