चंद्रमा (Moon) — पृथ्वी का natural satellite

- Distance from Earth: 384,400 km (avg)
- Diameter: 3,474 km (Earth का 27%)
- Mass: 7.35 × 10²² kg (Earth का 1.2%)
- Orbital period (sidereal): 27.32 दिन
- Synodic period (full to full): 29.53 दिन
- Surface gravity: 1.62 m/s² (Earth का 16.5%)
- Light travel from Moon: 1.28 seconds
Phases of Moon — श्रृंगोन्नति (Lunar Phases)
चंद्रमा खुद नहीं चमकता — सूर्य का प्रकाश reflect करता है। पृथ्वी के सापेक्ष चंद्रमा-सूर्य की position से phases बनते हैं।
Tithi Formula — Vedic Lunar Day Calculation
📐 Tithi Formula
Tithi = (Moon Longitude − Sun Longitude) ÷ 12°
Result 1-15 = शुक्ल पक्ष tithi (1=प्रतिपदा, 15=पूर्णिमा)
Result 16-30 = कृष्ण पक्ष tithi (16=कृष्ण-प्रतिपदा, 30=अमावस्या)
Example: Moon Long = 100°, Sun Long = 30° → (100−30) ÷ 12 = 5.83 → 6th tithi
ग्रहण (Eclipses) — Sun-Earth-Moon Geometry
दो प्रकार: Solar Eclipse और Lunar Eclipse।
Solar Eclipse (सूर्य ग्रहण): चंद्रमा सूर्य और पृथ्वी के बीच आता है। केवल अमावस्या को।
Lunar Eclipse (चंद्र ग्रहण): पृथ्वी सूर्य और चंद्रमा के बीच आती है। केवल पूर्णिमा को।
लेकिन हर अमावस्या/पूर्णिमा पर eclipse नहीं होता क्योंकि चंद्रमा का orbit Earth-Sun plane से 5° tilted है। Eclipse केवल जब Moon node (राहु/केतु) के पास हो।
Saros Cycle — Eclipses की 18-year repetition
📐 Saros Period
1 Saros = 6585.32 days = 18 years 11 days 8 hours
हर Saros के बाद same type का eclipse होता है — but 8 hours का shift मतलब geographic location बदलती है।
3 Saros = 54 years 1 month — same geographic location पर similar eclipse।
Artificial Satellites — आधुनिक उपग्रह
1957 में Sputnik launch के बाद से आज 5000+ artificial satellites हैं।
📐 Satellite Orbit Heights
- LEO (Low Earth Orbit): 200-2000 km — ISS 408 km, Starlink ~550 km
- MEO (Medium): 2000-35,786 km — GPS satellites 20,200 km
- GEO (Geostationary): exactly 35,786 km — satellite Earth के साथ rotate करता है
Geostationary orbit period = 24 hours (Earth rotation के बराबर)
Vastu Connection — ग्रहण के दौरान precautions
परंपरा में ग्रहण के दौरान खाना न खाना, खुले में न जाना, गर्भवती stree को special precautions। आधुनिक medical reason: solar eclipse में direct viewing से retinal damage। Vastu में eclipse के दौरान घर के main door पर तुलसी डालना, eclipse खत्म होने के बाद घर की सफाई — sattvic energy को reset करता है।
