Astrology tells us that the position of the planets at our birth indicates our nature, opportunities and challenges. Vastu tells us how the directions of our home shape the energy around us. Astro-Vastu is the beautiful union of these two ancient sciences — a method of balancing planetary energy through symbolic objects (remedies) placed in the correct direction of the home. In the MahaJyotish Astro-Vastu Course, Rana Ji has assigned a specific symbolic object to each planet, which awakens and balances that planet's energy in the home.
In this article we will understand the first 5 key Astro-Vastu remedies in detail — connecting each one to its planet, direction and area of life. Please note: these remedies are based on traditional beliefs and experience; to apply them correctly in your life, always get your birth chart and home analysed by an experienced guide.
The Ashoka Pillar is a symbol of India's soul — the same Lion Capital of Sarnath that represents dharma, authority and leadership. In astrology, the Sun is the significator of the soul, the father, government, leadership, fame and self-confidence. When the Sun is weak in a chart, a person may feel a lack of confidence, a sense of not being recognised, differences with the father, or blocks in promotion.
The idea behind placing an Ashoka Pillar in the home or office is that it awakens the Sun's radiant, royal energy. Just as the pillar stands tall, straight and firm, it is believed to instil stability, leadership ability and a sense of dignity within a person.
Direction: The Sun's direction is the East. Place the Ashoka Pillar in the eastern part of the home, or in your study/work room, so that the first rays of the morning fall upon it. A brass or wooden pillar is considered auspicious.
For whom: Those seeking roles in government, administration, politics or leadership; those whose confidence wavers; or those wishing to heal their relationship with their father — this remedy is considered especially helpful for them. Fasting on Sunday and offering water to the Sun are traditionally added to strengthen the Sun.
A pair of white horses symbolises coolness, movement and peace of mind. In astrology, the Moon signifies the mind, the mother, emotions, mental peace and the water element. A weak Moon keeps the mind restless — anxiety, insomnia, emotional ups and downs, concerns about the mother's health, and difficulty in decision-making.
White is the colour of the Moon, and the horse is a symbol of movement and progress. Together they convey a beautiful message — moving forward with a calm mind. Placing this pair in the home is believed to awaken mental peace, stable emotions and a sense of smooth momentum in life.
Direction: The Moon's direction is considered to be the North-West. Place the pair of white marble horses in this corner, or in a calm part of the bedroom. Keep both horses facing inward toward the home.
For whom: Those struggling with mental stress, insomnia or emotional instability; those worried about their mother's health; or those who want momentum in their career along with peace. Fasting on Monday and wearing silver further support the Moon.
Where the white horses bring peace, the pair of red horses blends the coolness of the mind (Moon) with the energy of Mars. Mars is the significator of courage, energy, valour, land and swift decision-making. Red is the colour of Mars. This remedy is for those who need not just peace, but peace along with momentum and courage.
When the mind (Moon) and energy (Mars) are balanced together, a person can make quick decisions with emotional stability and move toward goals with full force. It is considered especially suitable for breaking career stagnation and awakening self-strength.
Direction: Mars's direction is the South. Place the pair of red horses in the south, or in the room where you make your important decisions. Keep the horses facing the direction of movement — inward or toward your work area.
For whom: Those feeling blocked, lethargic or indecisive in their careers; athletes, aspirants for the army/police, property dealers; or those who need courage together with emotional balance. Mars energy is intense, so install this only under expert guidance.
A pair of love birds is the most beautiful symbol of sweetness and mutual understanding in relationships. Here two planetary energies meet — Mercury (communication, intellect, business, understanding) and Venus (love, marriage, beauty, marital happiness). When both Mercury and Venus are strong, relationships enjoy good communication as well as deep love.
Often the problem in married life is not a lack of love but a lack of communication — and these two planets balance exactly that. Placing a pair of love birds in the home is believed to awaken affection, understanding and sweet communication between partners.
Direction: The South-West corner and the bedroom are important for relationships. Place the love-bird pair in the south-west of the couple's bedroom, or in Venus's direction, the South-East. Always keep the pair together, facing each other — never keep a single bird alone.
For whom: Those experiencing distance, arguments or lack of communication in married life; those whose marriage is being delayed; or those who want sweetness in love and partnership. Friday worship and white-pink flowers are considered auspicious alongside.
The elephant is a symbol of strength, stability, prosperity and the removal of obstacles (the spirit of Ganesha). The red elephant combines the energy of both Rahu and Mars. Rahu signifies ambition, foreign lands, sudden gains or losses, illusion and shadow-force; Mars signifies courage and energy. When Rahu's uncontrolled energy is balanced by Mars's stability and the elephant's firmness, a shield is formed against sudden obstacles and instability.
The red colour lends the strength of Mars, and the heavy, stable form of the elephant grounds Rahu's restless energy to the earth. This remedy is especially for those whose lives face repeated unexpected obstacles, legal tangles, or unexplained instability.
Direction: Rahu's direction is considered the South-West. Place the red elephant in the south-west or south, on a firm and heavy spot — it is a symbol of stability, so do not place it on a high or unstable surface.
For whom: Those whose work falls apart just as it is about to succeed; those facing sudden losses, disputes or confusion; or those seeking stability in foreign travel/business. Rahu's energy is complex, so do not install it without expert consultation.
It is a beautiful coincidence that the planet of our very first remedy — the Ashoka Pillar — is the Sun, and all the yoga-knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita too was first given to the Sun. In the very first verse of the fourth chapter (Gyan Karma Sanyas Yoga), Lord Krishna himself says to Arjuna —
इमं विवस्वते योगं प्रोक्तवानहमव्ययम्।
विवस्वान्मनवे प्राह मनुरिक्ष्वाकवेऽब्रवीत्॥ (4.1)
That is — "I taught this imperishable yoga first to Vivasvan (the Sun god); the Sun told it to Manu, and Manu told it to Ikshvaku." This verse carries a deep message — the origin of the lineage of knowledge is the very Sun that governs our inner strength and radiance.
The Gita also teaches us that the planets are indicators of our karma, but our future is not in the hands of the planets alone — through effort (purushartha) and right action, we can change our direction. The famous verse of the sixth chapter, "uddhared atmanatmanam" (6.5), says that a person must uplift themselves by themselves. These Astro-Vastu remedies are not magic, but instruments of this very effort — a means to awaken the right energy in the right direction and support our own endeavours. 👉 Read in detail: Bhagavad Gita Chapter 4 — Gyan Karma Sanyas Yoga.
Rajesh Agrawal (name changed) of Indore is a medium-scale businessman. For nearly two years his business had been stuck in a strange stagnation — the hard work was all there, yet the results kept stalling. Big deals would break at the last moment, differences with partners kept growing, and once or twice he even faced sudden financial jolts. What hurt him most was that he was not receiving, in his own field, the recognition and respect he deserved. Slowly, his confidence too began to waver.
When Rajesh Ji contacted Rana Ji, the first step was to analyse both his birth chart and his home-cum-office. Two things became clear — first, his Sun was weak, signalling the lack of recognition and confidence; and second, the unstable energy of Rahu-Mars was showing up as repeated, unexplained blocks and sudden jolts in his work. In the home Vastu too, the East (the Sun's place) was suppressed and the south-west corner (Rahu's place) was disorganised.
Rana Ji suggested no demolition. Following the traditional Astro-Vastu method, a simple plan was made — the East was cleaned and opened up, and an Ashoka Pillar was placed there to awaken the Sun's radiant energy. The south-west corner was organised and a Red Elephant was placed there, chosen with the intent of grounding Rahu's restless energy and lending the strength of Mars. He was also advised to offer water to the Sun daily and to seek the blessings of his father and elders on Sundays.
Rajesh Ji says the change did not come overnight — but within a few months he felt a shift within. First, his confidence returned; he began speaking with more clarity and firmness in meetings. Gradually a few stalled deals moved forward again, and a partnership on the verge of breaking was resolved through dialogue. He was even invited to a small felicitation event in his business circle — the very recognition he had awaited for years.
Rajesh Ji himself believes these remedies worked no miracle — rather, they changed the direction of his mind. "I began to feel that I was taking the control of my life back into my own hands," he says. This is the true spirit of Astro-Vastu — as the Gita says, external remedies become a support for awakening the inner effort. The remedy gave Rajesh Ji a centre of stability, and the rest of the journey he covered with his own action and confidence.
