Vastu Purush Mandala having 45 Devtas and Asuras.
Naga – the Craving: The next energy field in the North-West direction is of Naga devta. He has been considered as a serpentine demon (sarp asur) and is the giver of enjoyments (Bhog). He is the power of giving emotional enjoyments.
He gives you the power which controls sexual tendencies–tendencies pertaining to Muladhara, and draws the best, possible pleasure and enjoyment out of them for you.
It is the power of Naga only that generates lust (sexual desire) in a person. In mythological texts, Naga has been mentioned in the form of a weapon (astra) of Kaamdeva. On whosoever Kaamdeva applies this power of Naga, he gets bound by sexual desire.
According to a story, on the request of Indra (Mahendra), the same power was applied on saint Vishwamitra as a result of which he fell for Menka and Mahendra saved his dethronement.
The same power has been termed as ‘Nagpash’ power of Varun, which is used to bind a person. In Vedas, he has been invoked as a weapon which can be used to bind enemies in lower human sensual activities. This demon is invoked in the form of a dev in Vedas.
